Just got this from one of my patients.

“Hi, my name is Henry Benavides and I’m proud to say that I am a patient of  Dr. Matt Rosenstein.

My story begins about 8 years ago (2002),  when I was working for U.P.S.   I was unloading a cargo truck one day, when all of a sudden, I lifted a box incorrectly and severely hurt my low back.  I couldn’t work any longer, so I decided to get a lot of bed rest and let my back heal by itself.

I then decided that I was well enough to sign up for the Marina Corps (USMC).  I felt confident that I could handle the hard physical training of the  Corp. WRONG!! I was only able to last about two months before my consistent visits to the doctor’s office landed me in the Medical Rehabilitation Platoon.  They had me  doing physical rehab – stretches and everything else under the sun to get me healthy enough to resume training.  Well, unfortunately, I did not improve.  It was really hard for me  lie down for an extended period of time, and it was really painful to walk for short periods.  Eventually, they had get an M.R.I.  A couple of days later, the doctor told that I had a herniated disc in my back (at L5/S1).  He said that it would take me a long time to recover and that I was not going back to training.  Of course I was very unhappy with this.  Finally, the Corps released me.

I focused on getting healthy again,  I got some chiropractic care, did stretches and physical rehab.  It took me almost two years for me to feel that I could lead a normal life again.

Fast forward about six years, and now  I am working as plumber.   Every once in a while, I would get a little soreness in my low back.  Then, one day – it happened.   I was unloading some concrete bags from the truck, when all of a sudden I felt this huge pain in my back.

I immediately called the office and said I was going home for the rest of the day.  The next morning, I woke up and I could barely move.   I decided to take a week off from work and felt that it would be enough time to recover.

One week turned into two -  and nothing had changed.  In fact, the pain became almost unbearable.  I knew there was something seriously wrong with me.  Depressed, unable to walk,  couldn’t lie down, unable to work. Things started to get real scary when my left calf muscle started to become numb.  I was unable to contract the muscle!!  I learned that I had sciatica.

I did some research online and found Dr. Matt’s website.   I decided to call him -  I thought to myself, “I hope I can get an appointment sometime this week” ( it was already Thursday).  I called Dr. Matt at about 9:00 am – and  I was surprised when he said,” I can squeeze into  today you for FREE!!!”

When I got to Dr. Matt’s office it was very clean and professional.  He was very friendly, intelligent, and professional.  Maybe it was his 34 years of experience, but I felt very comfortable and at ease with him.  We talked about everything I was going through and even my financial situation.  It all made sense to me.  He put me on the spinal decompression machine , to my surprise, I actually left feeling a little better.

Since I couldn’t work but really wanted the treatment, Dr Matt sat down and worked an incredible payment plan that I felt really comfortable with.  h it really did seem that he was more  interested in actually helping me and not just taking my money.  We started a serious treatment plan – and it was easy, since Dr.Matt worked with my schedule.  It almost seemed like he was there just for me.

Well, the great news – after only about two and half months of care,  I was back to work.  By the end off the third month,  I had no more pain.   I was walking and running with no more pain!

It has now been close to about six months since my last session with Dr.Matt and I feel great no pain, no soreness, no anything.

What Dr. Matt did for was truly great.  If it wasnt for him, I’m not sure that I would have ever recovered.  I consider him to be a life- long friend and mentor.  If you have any pain in your back, DO NOT hesitate to give Dr. Matt Rosenstein a call.  It will be the smartest thing you can do.”

Thanks, Henry.  I am so grateful to be able to help people like him- and now that he can go back to work, his life all works- the bills get paid, and he can take his family out and have fun  – and he has his life back.

Hi and thanks for reading this blog.  As you may know, I have been in practice (as a doctor of chiropractic) since 1976, and have been using spinal decompression to treat severe low back pain since 2006.

And all kinds of people show up with severe back problems.  Greg was just 29!!  and with a debilitating back problem.

Greg Farah  (name used with his written permission, of course) came to me in May, 2010, complaining of constant, severe pain in his low back, especially on the left, with pain and numbness down his left leg to his left big toe (“left sciatica”).  His MRI stated that he had an “extruded disc fragment [on the left at L4/L5] which effaces [blocks] the exiting nerve root…The disc fragment could result in left L5 radicular symptoms  (i.e.,  left leg pain)”.

He called me (at 415-686-9119) checked out my website (at www.sfbackpainrelief.com) and emailed me (drmatt1@aol.com).

He came in, received his free, one hour consultation and we determined that with his particular symptoms and disc problems, he was a very good candidate for spinal decompression.

Here Greg, in his own words:

“I could hardly walk and was in severe lower back pain that went down my butt, to my left leg all the way to my left foot. I later found that I had a herniated and fragmented disc.  I came in, Dr Matt explained how the whole process was going to work and we  got started.  It took a few visits but then I started to feel a bit better.  It is clear to me that it would not have been possible for me to duplicate my spinal decompression program on my own. Now my low back feels  better then it has in the last two years – and I have no pain down my left leg.

I think Dr. Rosenstein’s practice is great. I have  been dealing with back pain most of my adult life. Had tried everything from massage, acupuncture, stretching, etc. Dr. Rosenstein’s spinal decompression machine really helps.

However, its not only the spinal decompression machine that makes me value Dr. Rosenstein’s practice. He is very knowable about the back, spine and all its components and did a great job helping me understand my injury and what he can do to help me. He is a genuine Doctor that truly wants to help you feel better and practices solely for that reason.  Along with my treatment on the spinal decompression machine, I received chiropractic adjustments along with other treatments that were included.

Being out of pain opens all kinds of doors for me to enjoy a better life. The good Doctor has helped provide me with the opportunity to be free of lower back pain and stay out of it for good – if I do my best to maintain what he has helped me correct.

I had many pleasant experiences with Dr. Rosenstein. I looked forward to every visit not only for my treatment but also for his company, conversation, and advice.  He is a very understanding and flexible doctor.”

Thanks, Greg.  This is why I am in practice – to help people “get their lives back”.

So if you want to check this out,  just give me a call at 415-686-9119.

My best wishes to you,

Dr Matt Rosenstein

People come in with ALL  kinds of problems.  Non-surgical spinal decompression was originally intended to help low back disc bulges and disc herniations, but then people come in to my office in San Francisco and ask, “Can you help me too?”

Mia Lang is a lovely woman, fit and bright, in her seventies, with EXCRUCIATING pain in her low back and into her right leg (sciatica).  She came in, bringing her MRIs with her (as most of my patients do).  When I saw the report and films, I said to myself, “Whoa, this one’s pretty bad.”  She had spinal degeneration in her low back, with one of the bones shoved forward over the bone below.

What happens sometimes is that one of the spinal bones (vertebra) will shift  (“listhesis”)  either forwards (“antero”)  or backwards (“retro”).  Usually this is from an injury, trauma, or from (in this case) really bad degeneration.

So an “antero-listhesis” is forward shift of one spinal bone over the one below.  And if you are  picturing this in your head, and you go, “ouch!” – well, you got it right.  The joints in the back of the spine are touching and jamming and the spinal nerves that come out between the vertebra are pinched.  Not a whole lot of fun.

Now keep in mind that we evaluate each antero-listhesis by how FAR  forward the spinal bone has gone.  Her’s went    45 % forward – which is really a lot.  While surgery may be an option, it is really not a very good one. And her question was- can this new, noninvasive technique help her?

Here is Mia:    “I was experiencing constant severe low back pain and pain into my right leg.  Couldn’t really do much -the pain really restricting me from really doing much. My life was just miserable”

So, how did the spinal decompression work for her?

“Now, I can do more physical work without suffering the agonizing low back pain that I had before.  I can sleep most nights without the sciatic pain waking me up.”

So what the spinal decompression did was to gently, carefully pull her low back joints apart so that the nerves and joints can heal.  And it worked!!

And here’s what she had to say about her experience here:

“High integrity, professionalism, and expertise are the mark of this practice!  Dr. Rosenstein has a caring, encouraging, reassuring approach to his work with the  focus on the patient’s comfort.  I trust him completely.”

Thank yo so much, Mia.

Why live unnecessarily in pain, even with a really difficult problem like antero-listhesis?  Give me a call at  415-686-9119.

You get an hour of my time so we can figure out if this new therapy can help you.

Joey Furuto (name used with his written permission), working for City and County of San Fran, likes to have a good time.  Work hard, party hard. Did the Bay to Breakers (foot race), went to bed, wakes up, does yoga (probably the “spinal twist”),  an…

Oh, oh – feels that the left leg feels “funny”.  Even though he could still do all of his regular activities, his low back was just worse.  Went to an acupuncturist, went to a regular chiropractor, went to the MD ( and got Vicodyn, Naprocin).  Finally got x-rays, and they “diagnosed” some minor low back spinal degeneration.

But it didn’t feel “minor”… so he insisted on an MRI.  And he discovers that he has a really big disc herniation on the left between the  fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae. (on the MRI, it measures 16 mm top to bottom, 9 mm front to back and  11 mm side to side)

“Oh, man,” he says to himself, “So now what??”

So he calls me, comes in, we do the consultation and start treatment.

Here’s Joey,   in his own words:

“When I started with Dr. Matt,  I couldn’t bend over at the waist, couldn’t even turn my neck or my back around, and felt constant sciatic pain down my left leg.  Noting had helped.  And I really didn’t want surgery.  So I started with the spinal decompression machine.

About half the way through ( 15 treatments), I was able to get back to having a social life!!  Initially I was able to go out just for an hour or two,  but by the end of the treatment program (35 visits), I really gotten my social life all the way back!

Overall, being treated with spinal decompression was an essential part om my healing process.  Thank  you, Dr Matt ”

By shrinking  the disc herniation, we got the pressure off his spinal nerve,  the nerve could heal and he was able to get his life back.  Way to go, Joey!

So, if you are wondering if this new technology could help you, too, just give me a call at 415-686-9119, come in for your free one hour consultation and let’s figure this out together.

And thanks for reading

As you may know, I (Dr Matt Rosenstein) have been in practice for thirty-four years – and have seen many people with extremely serious problems.  Paul Olson (named used with his express, written permission)  came in – in constant severe low back pain; disabled, depressed, skeptical.  Here is Paul’s story – in his own words:

“I  am a forty-two year old, male police officer – who had to retire in 2010 due to a severe low back injury.  My low back disc  (at L5/S1) had been injured in 2002, with a disc bulge; it got a lot worse with a second injury in 2005, when the disc herniated  (it got a LOT  worse).  At that point,  I was in constant, severe low back pain, and had pain going down both legs. Then I had surgery  (in 2007)  but the Surgery Did Not Work – and I was still in severe low back pain with constant pain down the legs.

I had lost all hope of having a complete and fulfilling life, and was look at a life filled with pain medications, spinal injections and (probably) another surgery.

Then, in November, 2009, I started getting spinal decompression treatments with Dr. Matt Rosenstein.  Within the first few visits, I could feel the muscles in my low back stretching, which started to take pressure off my nerves.  For the first time in years, I now have days where I have no pain! By the way, my own treatment plan took thirty visits.

I now feel more confident about my ability to do all normal daily activities, and I now have a new-found hope for my future.  I now have fun with my nine month old son (when, before the spinal decompression treatments, I couldn’t even pick him up!)

So, if you have a bulging or herniated low back disc, and/or failed back surgery,  go see Dr.  Matt.  The first couple of treatments are free.  Call him now and find out if spinal decompression can change your life (or the life of someone you know and care about.)

Additionally,  Dr. Matt (as he likes to be called) is an experienced Doctor of Chiropractic, who takes the time to get to know you and your situation.  He is very knowledgeable in his field;  he is also very personable.  He is with you in the office as you are being treated, and can answer all of your questions and make sure that all of your concerns are addressed.

Dr. Matt personally answers his own phone and is flexible about setting your appointment times.

I am so very happy to have fun, optimism and hope back in my life.

Paul  Olson

P.S.  If you are a Peace Officer, and you have low back pain (and I know that you do), go see him.  He is someone you can trust.”

Thanks, Paul.  Helping people like you is what it is all about.

The First Step – call me now for your free consultation – so that we can find out together if this new medical technology can help fix your low back problem.

Hi there -

I was talking to a friend recently about what specifically that I do that’s so different from every other back pain doctor out there.

If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, then you know that the relief that one gets from Spinal Decompression is not only quick, it’s also thousands of dollars less expensive than costly surgery.

Check out the following video & let me know if you have any questions!

And here is a story about how spinal decompression fixed a a severely herniated low back disc in San Francisco.

One of the pleasures of being in practice is meeting all kinds of unique and interesting people.  J.T. Mann (name used with his express written permission)  is a man with a passion – for cooking.  Which means he is always lifting – pots of soup, bags of groceries, pans of bread (or roast chicken), desserts.  And he does it well.  I mean, he is a recognized gourmet chef.  Well, at some point a while ago, his back told him that it really had had enough – and that he REALLY needed to get some help.

He came in, complaining of severe chronic low back pain and pain, numbness and weakness in the left leg.  This had been going on for awhile, but was getting worse.

Now, here’s the thing.  We have two nerves coming out of the spine at each spinal level (hence…Spinal nerves).  And the usual progression when a nerve is being pinched is:

the person feels first tingling, then pain, then numbness. Now, if the nerve is REALLY getting pinched, then the part of the nerve that goes to the muscles starts to get bad- and the person will start to have muscles weakness, frequently felt as “the leg is starting to feel heavy”.

So when I heard J.T. say, “and my left leg is getting weak”,  I am saying to myself, “Oh No!  This is NOT good.”

We look at his MRIs and he has  a disc herniation on the left (at spinal nerve root level L5/S1) and we get started.  He comes in daily for several weeks and…here is what he says next:

My pain went away – the constant intense pain was gone.  I realized that I didn’t have to keep the pain if I didn’t want to.  I am sleeping better, getting better rest.  My energy has incresed and I am so much happier.”

And J.T. can go back to his stove and his oven, making amazing food, experiencing the joy in his life, not the pain.

Meet Dennis Broderick (name used with his permission) – a very pleasant, hard working guy in his late 40s.  Dennis used to drive a concrete mixing truck, and now is a supervisor for the largest concrete delivery company in San Francisco.

He came in complaining of constant severe low back pain for over twenty years. He had increasing difficulty in walking, and moderate to severe pain down the back of both legs.  He had tried lots of different kinds of therapies, but nothing had worked.  MRIs confirmed his subjective complaints – spinal nerves were being pinched,  his spinal discs were thin, and the spinal facets joints were touching .  Not a whole lot of fun.

Now, Dennis is a great guy, and loves two hobbies – motorcycles and baseball.  So, every spring, he drives his motorcycle (along with his boss from work) from San Francisco to Phoenix to see San Francisco Giants spring training.

So here he is – in severe back pain (with a degenerated disc on MRIs), and wanting to drive 1200 miles on a motorcycle!!

And he had another problem – we only had time for the first ten treatments BEFORE he had to leave on this trip.  So one of his questions was – was it worth it for him to start spinal decompression prior to cycling to Phoenix.  And I absolutely said, “YES”!!

So, we started – daily spinal decompression 35 minutes a day, for two weeks, and he began to feel better.  And then he drove his 1200 miles there, sitting for several days, and got to Phoenix. THEN, he was sitting all day on hard wooden benches,  watching baseball -  three hours a day, every day, for one week.  And then – he drove 1200 miles back.  And with all this, he STILL  continued to feel better.

By the end of his twenty-five treatments, he felt JUST FINE!  In his letter to me, Dennis says,

“My back pain and leg pain are gone.  I can now sleep all night, without drugs, and I can move freely, instead of walking very stiffly  (and looking like an old man).  I was in and out of the office, on time, every time. I wish I had discovered Dr. Rosenstein and spinal decompression twenty years ago.”

So if you are unclear about what exactly is wrong with you, are not certain what your treatment options are, and you want my complete, undivided attention to figure all this out, give me a call at 415-686-9119.

And thanks for reading my blog.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I am excited about providing this amazing service to my community here in San Francisco. Being in the Marina District since 1978, I have seen lots of changes in my town, and treated lots of wonderful people.

But I always had a nagging question – there were always these patients with severe low back pain that regular chiropractic spinal care just couldn’t treat. And as someone who believes in natural healing, I really didn’t have any answer other than, “Well, guess you gotta go to surgery” (said with a wince). And that’s when I started looking around for “something better”.

Now I have a powerful  non-surgical tool – spinal decompression – to help those suffering with low back disc bulges, disc herniation, severe spinal degeneration, spinal stenosis and facet syndrome.

One of my friends asked me, “How do you know what’s wrong with these people?” And I responded, “You don’t get it. They already come in with xrays, MRIs, reports. They already know what’s wrong. They don’t need more diagnostic tests. No, they are looking for some a valid, successful, NON-surgical approach to fixing their problem.”

This blog will be a series of stories about my patients – what happened to them, what their MRI reports said, and how they were helped. It will updated a couple of times a week – so stay tuned for the latest.

Any questions, please feel free to give me a call (at 415-686-9119) or email me at: drmatt1@aol.com.

My best wishes for your good health
